ABOUT THE FILM

In MY NEW OLD SELF, filmmaker Louise Unmack Kjeldsen embarks on an emotional journey into the mystery of menopause. Louise and other affected women from around the world talk openly about their experiences with severe menopausal symptoms.

Although half of the world’s population experiences menopause and many women suffer so much that their everyday lives are severely impaired, this phase of life is still poorly researched. For centuries, historical prejudices contributed to many sufferers enduring their pain in silence, and knowledge remains limited to this day.

Now, researchers around the world are searching for answers to understand the effects of declining estrogen on the body and brain.

Why do four out of five women experience hot flashes and more than a quarter suffer from sleep disorders? Why do 41% suffer from memory problems? Why does the 45-54 age group have the highest suicide rate? How are menopause symptoms related to women’s threefold higher risk of Alzheimer’s disease and depression? What options are available to counteract this?

MY NEW OLD SELF breaks taboos, exposes myths and misinformation, and sheds new light on menopause.
